Zinc Sulphate Heptahydrate

General Properties and Industrial Significance:

Zinc sulfate heptahydrate (chemical formula: ZnSO₄·7H₂O) is a hydrated form of zinc sulfate, appearing as colorless or white crystals. It contains around 22% elemental zinc.
Compared to zinc sulfate monohydrate, the heptahydrate form has more water content and lower zinc concentration by weight, but both serve similar purposes.

Applications:

  • Agriculture:

  1. Commonly used as a micronutrient fertilizer to correct zinc deficiency in soils.
  2. Promotes enzyme function, growth, and hormone production in plants.
  3. Applied through soil, foliar sprays, or fertilizer blends.
  • Animal Feed:

  1. Used as a zinc supplement in livestock and poultry feed to support metabolism, immunity, and reproduction.
  • Industrial Uses:

  1. Employed in electroplating, water purification, and chemical manufacturing.
  2. Used in the production of preservatives, fungicides, and dyes.
