General Properties and Industrial Significance:
EDTA-MnK₂ is a manganese chelate, where manganese (Mn²⁺) is bound to EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) and neutralized with two potassium (K⁺) ions. It is a water-soluble, stable source of manganese used in agriculture to provide plants with an essential micronutrient.
EDTA-MnK₂ works the same way as EDTA-MnNa₂, with the main difference being that potassium ions are used instead of sodium for charge balance. This can be a preferred option in systems where low sodium content is desired.
Applications:
-
Agriculture (Micronutrient Fertilizer):
-
Used to correct manganese deficiency in crops such as cereals, soybeans, citrus, vegetables, and fruits.
-
Manganese is critical for:
-
Photosynthesis
-
Chlorophyll synthesis
-
Enzyme activation
-
Nitrogen metabolism
-
-
Application Methods:
-
Soil application
-
Foliar spraying
-
Fertigation
-
Hydroponic systems
Key Benefits:
-
Contains around 12–13% elemental manganese.
-
Highly bioavailable and effective across a broad pH range (especially neutral to slightly alkaline soils, up to pH ~7.5).
-
Prevents manganese from precipitating or binding with other elements in the soil.
-
Potassium (K⁺) ions may contribute minor additional nutritional value to plants.
