EDTA CuNa2

General Properties and Industrial Significance:

EDTA-CuNa₂ is a copper chelate, where copper (Cu²⁺) is bound to EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) and stabilized with two sodium (Na⁺) ions. It is a water-soluble, stable form of copper, designed to ensure efficient copper delivery to plants.
This form is especially useful in modern crop nutrition programs where precise and efficient micronutrient delivery is needed.

Applications:

  • Agriculture (Micronutrient Fertilizer):

  1. Used to correct copper deficiency in crops like cereals, citrus, vegetables, and tree fruits.
  2. Copper is essential for:
    • Chlorophyll production
    • Lignin synthesis (important for cell wall strength)
    • Reproductive development, Enzyme systems
  3. The EDTA chelation keeps copper soluble and plant-available, especially in soils with high pH or where copper tends to get bound to organic matter.

  • Application Methods:

  1. Foliar spray
  2. Soil application
  3. Fertigation
  4. Hydroponics

Key Benefits:

  • Typically contains about 14–15% elemental copper.

  • Prevents copper precipitation and immobilization in the soil.

  • Effective in neutral to slightly alkaline soils (up to pH ~6.5–7.0).
