General Properties and Industrial Significance:
Coronatine is an innovative Plant Grow Regulator which is naturealy sourced by fermentation. Coronatine is natural toxin produced by certain bacteria, specifically Pseudomonas syringae, which is a plant pathogenic bacterium. Coronatine is a virulence factor, meaning it plays a role in the bacterium's ability to cause disease in plants. It is chemically similar to jasmonic acid, a plant hormone involved in stress responses, but Coronatine´s activity is 100 - 10 000 times higher that of jasmonic acid.
Agricultural Uses:
-
Coronatine enhances crop stress resistance. Coronatine-treated plants show increased resistance to frost, heat, drought and salinization.
-
Coronatine treatment reduces the number of empty granins and increases grain weight.
-
Coronatine treatment in fruit trees enhances sugar accumulation, promotes uniform coloration, lowers acidity, and improves overall flavor quality of fruits.
-
Coronatine treatment extends the shelf life of fruits such as citrus and peaches.
